Our Story
Like everyone else, we have a story.
When a good friend of mine learned that she had terminal cancer, I wondered how I could help. I’m a terrible cook, so no one wanted me to help with meals. I didn’t know any words of comfort, and I wasn’t sure what to do to make things easier for her.
It turns out that the best help of all was simply being there — just spending time with my friend to cry, laugh and be a friend. She just wanted me to be with her in her journey.
When faced with the end of life, we often think of things we didn’t get to finish. My friend had so much more to say — letters she wanted to write to her children that they could read as adults, stories about her childhood that she wanted her future grandchildren to know, and even a letter of love that would be read at her “Celebration of Life.”
So one day I curled up next to her with my laptop. “I’ll be your scribe,” I joked with her. “I’ll help you write what you want to say and what you want others to remember.”
My fingers flew across the keyboard as she talked, sharing everything from her dreams for her children to funny stories of her childhood she wanted others to know.
“You should help other people with this kind of thing,” she said to me one afternoon. “Many of us have things of lasting value that we want to communicate, but we need help doing that. You can help others do that. ”
And so The Legacy Scribe was born. We’re writers, photographers and videographers who can help you create a lasting legacy.
